Explosion in Beirut: the Lebanese Red Cross is mobilized to help the local population.

06 August 2020

On August 4th, a violent explosion occurred in Beirut. According to the latest estimates, over 130 people were killed and more than 5,000 were injured, some of them seriously.

The Lebanese Red Cross took concrete measures to help victims immediately after the explosion. Supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, volunteers assisted the people in Beirut whose houses were literally blown up by the explosion. Ambulances and paramedics from all over the country helped evacuate and care for the injured in the capital, mobile first aid posts were set up and patients requiring intensive care were treated.

This latest disaster has further aggravated the situation of millions of people in Lebanon, who were already suffering from a severe economic and social crisis and were also hit particularly hard by Covid-19. Against this background, the country needs all available assistance to cope with one of the most dramatic episodes in its history.

The Luxembourg Red Cross is therefore calling for donations to help the Lebanese Red Cross to continue its efforts in Beirut. Help us to help the vulnerable. Make a donation to strengthen the capacities of the teams on site.
