A busy week for the Niger Red Cross

Last week, the president of the Niger Red Cross, Ali Bandiaré, accompanied by Prosper Zombre, head of mission of the Luxembourg Red Cross in Niger, visited Luxembourg.

During the International Aid board meeting, in the presence of H.R.H. the Grand Duchess, Mr. Bandiaré explained the challenges of the Red Cross action which intervenes in emergency and development projects in most regions of Niger and recalled the challenges of the continuity of humanitarian activities in an unstable political context. He also praised the usefulness and relevance of the collaboration between the Luxembourg Red Cross and the Niger Red Cross, which has lasted for a decade.

On Friday, Ali Bandiaré and the Humanitarian Aid team went to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs to meet Manuel Tonnar, director general of LuxDev, which supports several projects of the Luxembourg Red Cross in the Sahel region. During this meeting, the importance of coordination between humanitarian and development agencies to support the population in the face of the security crisis in Niger was underlined.

The Niger delegation took advantage of its presence in Luxembourg to visit the Red Cross Bazar at the end of the week and present the humanitarian challenges the country faces. Ali Bandiaré and Prosper Zombre spoke as experts at the conference “Against gender-based violence”.

The president of the Niger Red Cross finally told media about the difficulties linked to food security, inflation and the consequences of climate change in the Sahel.

This last issue was the subject of a video produced by the Niger Red Cross which was broadcast during COP-27 to raise awareness on the needs of the population and the activities of the Red Cross and its partners in the country.
