40 years after the discovery of HIV, let’s not forget the importance of psychological support!

01 December 2023

The HIV Berodung service, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, reminds us of the many ways in which HIV-positive people can receive support, particularly psychological support.

“The HIV Berodung service is based on two pillars: psycho-medico-social support on the one hand, and prevention on the other“, explains Laurence Mortier, head of this national reference health service.

Psychological support depends very much on the needs of the person receiving it. It provides support when the person is told they are HIV-positive, to help them talk about it with their loved ones, or to deal with discrimination that still exists. It is free of charge.

The other part of the service’s activities covers prevention, which takes the form of training and awareness-raising initiatives, as well as screening.
