NIGER: extension of the Red Cross logistics Centre to better assist victims of humanitarian crises

15 February 2022

On Wednesday 9 February 2022, Franz Fayot, Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, visited the logistics centre built by the Luxembourg Red Cross in Niamey, Niger, and laid the foundation stone to inaugurate the extension of the building.

Mr Franz Fayot was accompanied by the Director of LuxDev – Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency, Mr Gaston Schwartz, and the Director of ADA – Appui au Développement Autonome, Ms Laura Foschim. They were welcomed by the Secretary General, Mr Issa Yamoussa, representing the President of the Nigerian Red Cross, and the Director of International Aid of the Luxembourg Red Cross, Mr Rémi Fabbri.

The extensive work is part of the Luxembourg Red Cross’s new multi-year project funded by the Luxembourg Cooperation Directorate, which is strengthening the logistical capacity of the Niger Red Cross throughout the country.

The list of challenges for humanitarian organisations in Niger is indeed long and reinforcing the logistical capacities of the Niger Red Cross, of which the Luxembourg Red Cross is a long-standing partner, has become necessary to improve the efficiency of the humanitarian response, and to come to the aid of victim families more quickly.

Mr. Franz Fayot highlighted the importance of sychronising Luxembourgish actors to support the most vulnerable people, as well as the major role played by the Luxembourg Red Cross among the humanitarian actors in Niger in the field of housing.
