The Luxembourg Red Cross is appealing for donations to support its Moroccan colleagues in providing urgent humanitarian aid to victims of the earthquake that has just struck the North African country.
More than 8,000 Moroccan Red Crescent volunteers were immediately involved in search and rescue operations. They are providing first aid, psychosocial support and helping to transport the injured to hospitals.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which has 191 member national societies including the Luxembourg Red Cross and the Moroccan Red Crescent, immediately released 1 million Swiss francs. Assessments are underway to send emergency response teams within 24 to 48 hours, depending on needs.
