Cyclone Herold: emergency help for Madagascar

25 March 2020

The tropical cyclone Herold caused many floods and damages, depriving the Malagasy populations of access to drinking water. Our teams responded in emergency on the island, disinfecting 50 wells in the Antahala district and thus allowing more than 2750 people to access water again.

In addition to natural disasters, the inhabitants of Madagascar also have to face the spread of the coronavirus. Since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, our teams adapted their regular activities in the field to prevent potential infections. They sat up handwashing points, informed the population about infection prevention measures and trained 50 volunteers in Antananarivo and Antalaha. We launched all these activities with the support of the Luxembourg Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs.
