A platform for committed young people
The Luxembourg Youth Red Cross (Jugendroutkräiz) offers young people from the age of 15 an ideal platform for volunteer work. In accordance with its principles and values, the Red Cross, together with the Red Cross Youth, helps young people become committed citizens who take an active part in shaping their way of life together. The Red Cross youth summer camps are still one of the cornerstones of the Red Cross.
It all began more than 100 years ago with the Service Vacances: in 1914, the Red Cross first organized holiday camps for children from the south of the country. This activity then became a permanent institution, and the Luxembourg Red Cross Youth was created in 1948.
As the services offered by the two initiatives are complementary, they have been operating together as a single organisation for more than 30 years. The aim of the proposed volunteer work is to give every teenager or young adult the opportunity to realise his or her idea of social commitment.
The Youth Red Cross helps young people aged 15 to 30 to develop their own identity by helping others. The Red Cross holiday camps are one very comprehensive way of achieving this goal, but there are also other projects on offer.
Young people can participate in a training course and become assistant leaders or main leaders at holiday camps. They also have the opportunity to launch their own projects or get involved in existing social projects run by the Youth Red Cross and participate in various annual initiatives for good causes.
Young people can meet at any time and prepare their activities at the continuing education centre in Bertrange. The youth committee supports them in developing and implementing their activities. One of the main advantages of volunteering with the Youth Red Cross is the opportunity to work with other departments of the Red Cross. In this way, young people can help others and contribute to shaping the society of tomorrow.

Getting involved with the Youth Red Cross means actively participating in educational and solidarity projects, while acquiring skills in leadership, group management and communication.
The training programme offered by the Youth Red Cross is aimed at young people who want to get involved in summer camps. It consists of two stages:
– Certificate B – Assistant Coordinator: This first phase includes an information session, two weekends of themed training, a week of practical training and a camp. It teaches the basics of leadership and prepares participants for their first experience in the field.
– Certificate C – Coordinator: Accessible after obtaining Certificate B, this second phase includes three weekends and one week of training, as well as practical experience at a camp. It deepens knowledge of activity leadership, safety, group dynamics, conflict management, creativity and responsibility.
The Youth Red Cross also offers preparation for Certificate D for specialised activity coordinators and the Rescue Team specialisation.
For more than 70 years, the Youth Red Cross has been offering children and teenagers holidays by the sea, in the mountains or in the countryside. Supervised by specially trained young volunteers, children can enjoy a wide range of entertaining activities at camps organised both in Luxembourg and abroad.
Holidays with the Youth Red Cross are open to everyone, without distinction. Every year, more than 600 children and teenagers aged 4 to 17, both able-bodied and disabled, and from all social backgrounds, go on holiday with the Youth Red Cross.
The prices for these holidays are divided into three different levels, determined according to the parents’ income and situation.
