Heatwave Plan 2025: Protect yourself from hot days

01 July 2025

Summer heatwaves represent a major health risk, particularly affecting vulnerable people such as the elderly or those suffering from chronic illnesses. In response to the current period of high temperatures, the French Ministry of Health has introduced the Heatwave Plan, an initiative designed to protect at-risk populations in the event of extreme heat.

Protection measures and inclusion in the Heatwave Plan

Practical advice to protect yourself from the heat

It is crucial to follow a few tips to protect yourself from the harmful effects of the heat:

  • Drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day.
  • Spend several hours a day in cool places or in the shade.
  • Limit your activities during the hottest part of the day.
  • Eat water-rich foods such as salad, cucumber, tomato and melon.
  • Avoid alcohol and drinks containing caffeine.
  • Keep the rooms in your home dark during the day by using curtains or shutters, and keep the windows closed.
  • Refresh your body with showers or partial baths.
  • Check in regularly with the elderly people around you and make sure they are drinking enough.
