Children’s rights according to the Luxembourg Red Cross
I have the right to a family.

Every child has the right to grow up in a caring environment, surrounded by people who love and support them. This fundamental right ensures that every child can live with their family, or when that is not possible, in a setting that promotes their balance and development.
Several services of the Luxembourg Red Cross work alongside families to make this right a reality for all children and young people:
– Foster care: providing a family environment for a child
– Families First: preserving children’s well-being within their family
– Familljenhëllef: support for familles
– Maison de l’Adoption: guidance and support before and after adoption
– ORIBeHo: counselling and support for parents in conflict
– Service Adoption: intermediary in adoption procedures
I have the right to learn.

Every child has the right to learn, receive training and develop their knowledge in a caring environment that is tailored to their needs. Education is an essential pillar of their development: it enables them to discover the world, believe in their abilities and build their future.
Several services of the Luxembourg Red Cross are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to quality and equitable education:
– Sociotherapeutic centre: for children in school distress
– Youth Red Cross: a platform for committed young people
– Maisons Relais and Nurseries: for the well-being of every child
– Structures of Reception and Integrated Education: welcoming children from migratory backgrounds
I have the right to a home.

Every child has the right to a home, a place where they feel safe, protected and at home. Having a roof over their head is much more than a material necessity: it guarantees a space where children can rest, grow up peacefully and flourish.
The teams at the Luxembourg Red Cross work every day to provide every child and young person with a dignified and safe place to live:
– Centre d’Accueil Norbert Ensch: for children and young people in distress
– Perspectives: supervised housing for young adults in distress
– Jugendwunnen: helping young people transitioning to independent living who are experiencing housing-related difficulties
I have the right to speak out and to feel good.

Every child has the right to feel good, both physically and mentally. Growing up in good physical and mental health means being able to express oneself and be listened to. Every young person should have access to psychological or psychotherapeutic support in a caring, respectful and confidential environment.
To meet these essential needs, the Luxembourg Red Cross has set up various specialised services that support children and adolescents in achieving lasting well-being:
– Sociotherapeutic centre: for children in school distress
– LOTUS: supporting adolescents with transgressive behaviour
– Maison de l’Adoption: guidance and support before and after adoption
– Perspectives: supervised housing for young adults in distress
– Psy-Jeunes: promoting psychological well-being
– PsyUp: psychological mobile service for young people
I have the right to be safe.

Every child has the right to live in a safe environment, free from all forms of violence, neglect or conflict. Being safe means being able to grow up without fear, develop with confidence and build solid foundations for the future. This right protects every child and young person from war, abuse and all violations of their integrity.
Committed to preserving this safety on a daily basis, the Luxembourg Red Cross operates through several services designed to protect, accompany and support the most vulnerable children:
– Centre d’Accueil Norbert Ensch: for children and young people in distress
– ORIBeHo: counselling and support for parents in conflict
– Structures of Reception and Integrated Education: welcoming children from migratory backgrounds
I have the right to leisure activities.

Every child has the right to thrive, play, laugh and enjoy their childhood to the full. Leisure activities are essential to their development because they nurture creativity, self-confidence and connections with others. Having time to have fun, discover and share also means learning to grow up happy.
With this in mind, the Luxembourg Red Cross offers numerous activities and spaces dedicated to young people to promote their well-being and development on a daily basis:
– Youth Red Cross: a platform for committed young people
– Hariko: an artistic project dedicated to young people
– LOFT – Lokale Familljentreff: a space designed for and with families
– Youth centres: a social space for free development
– Maisons Relais and Nurseries: for the well-being of every child
– Structures of Reception and Integrated Education: welcoming children from migratory backgrounds
Beyond these rights, every child also benefits from other essential rights that ensure their development and dignity: the right to expression, participation, equality, identity, and protection from discrimination. Together, these rights form the foundation of a childhood that is respected, heard, and valued.
