How does the service Streetwork Uewerstad work?

Two social workers, a graduated educator, a specialized educator, and the head of department carry out daily tours in the districts of the upper city to find homeless people. img_streetwork_tournee_520pxThey inform them about the existence of the service and invite them to the provided premise to accommodate them. The tours take place on Mondays from 7pm to 10pm and on Thursdays from 6.30am to 10.30am.
At 1, rue Willy Goergen, the Red Cross offers them a warm spot with tables and chairs, and a small kitchen. Board games and books are available to them as well. Together with “Stëmm vun der Strooss” asbl, the Red Cross prepares img_streetwork_cuisiner_520pxsimple meals and offers the homeless drinks.
The service accommodates between 40 and 50 people a day. Pets are welcomed as well, along with their owner.
The team listens to the problems of its clients, and helps them to find legal, medical, and administrative solutions if needed. The support and mentorship towards a better situation takes account of the resources and rhythm of the person.
