Over €1,000 raised by Miami University in support of the Luxembourg Red Cross’ Mois du Don campaign

On Wednesday, May 2, Miami University presented the Luxembourg Red Cross with a generous check in support of the Mois du Don. The University’s John E. Dolibois European Center in Differdange held multiple fundraisers in April to support the Luxembourg Red Cross’ actions. Dean Thierry Leterre, along with Student Activities Coordinator Andrew Thain and eight university students, presented the check for €1,000 to Jean-Marc Le Coq, General Secretary of the Luxembourg Red Cross, at a reception at the school’s Luxembourg Campus.

This is the first time that Miami University, whose main campus is in the United States, has worked with the Luxembourg Red Cross, and their efforts in April signify the beginning of a partnership between these two organisations.

Mr. Thain helped over 30 American students plan a series of events to help raise funds for the Red Cross, including an Easter Egg Hunt with a local elementary school, a Taco Night on campus followed by an evening at the pub, and a pancake breakfast at the school. Faculty was invited to these events and many participated. The students also spent a week baking in their university’s kitchen in preparation for a bake sale at the Red Cross’ stand in the city centre on April 28. That helped the stand raise over €250.

The Luxembourg Red Cross is grateful to Miami University, their staff, and students for their many efforts, and looks forward to working with them again on supporting Red Cross actions.
